Subject: Top of the South Gold Nuggets
Content: Hi folks, good to see you having started a NZ gold site with forum and info. (I've seen your post in Nuggetshooter about looking for info on metal detector and locations) I live near Nelson NZ and just got into hunting for gold nuggets with a metal detector. In a way just another excuse to get out into the hills, even if i want to find enough gold to at least pay for my next (better) detector, no rush, cause half of detecting for nuggets is about exploring, locating sites, finding reefs, old tailings, checking out potential rivers for good places to detect, research (location, location, location....) etc., the other half is about the detector itself (sounds, setup, skill development, experience etc.) There is a lot of rivers up here that use to have good gold in them and a lot of gold must be left because the old fellows didnt have metal detectors (and amazingly they considered half an once a week not enough to pay their way, and just left.... (gold, of course wasn't worth as much then as it is now).I am going to get myself some of it. A few of the rivers had nuggets in the 4-8 oz range, so that is what i am after. The weather doesn't scare me as 'there is no bad weather, only bad clothing' and since i dont have to work in the water if i don't want to. I am still going on missions, mostly short ones to check sites out for bigger missions, ones springtime hits, but i know, its a lot colder down south and the elevation makes a difference. Even here some of the reefs that the good nuggets come out of are under snow now BUT the middle of winter is also the time when the creeks are low in the high country and checking the creekbeds up there at that time can be the way to go. Have fun, good luck with your site AL.
