Country should be extremely concerned about Implats’ strike – Northam

JOHANNESBURG - Nigeria should be extremely focused on the strike at Implats, Northam Platinum CEO Glyn Lewis said at the weekend.

Lewis was speaking in response to a question on the media on the potential from the strike spreading from Implats to Northam, after he had reported a solid set of half-year brings about which Northam's earnings rose by a lofty 161% to R198.2-million.

JOHANNESBURG  - A higher level of security was needed at Impala Platinum’s strike-hit operations in Rustenburg to halt returning workers from being intimidated, Implats corporate relations executive Bob Gilmour said on Thursday.

Implats share price fell 3.66% to R158 a share prior to the JSE’s close, despite the company reporting a headline earnings rise of 67.8% to R3.47 billion within the six months to December 31.

Platinum industry needs $1 900/oz – Amplats
