Grounded furnace slag has gradually been recognized and widely used, the production and application of slag volume have increased greatly year by year , except being used as the concrete admixture, Some Cement Plants used the way of grinding grounded furnace slag and clinker respectively to produce ordinary Portland cement and slag cement.

At present, the production of grounded furnace slag is based mainly on ball mill and vertical grinding system. Because different systems of grinding have different grinding principle and process, the production of grounded furnace slag in particles distribution and performance are also different, and influence their functional performance. Ball mill and vertical grinder for the production of slag particles and their functional characteristics are being studied. ( The influence on powdered ore by different ways of grinding is specified in other document ) .this article only makes comparison of the differences between the characteristic of slag particles made by ball mill and vertical grinder.

Different specific surface area of the ball mill and vertical grinder's slag powder size distribution test shows: With the increase of surface area, median particle diameter of mineral powder d50 will be smaller, and the particle's contents will increase, when the specific surface area is the same, d50 of both slag particles of ball mill and vertical grinder are the same. Shows that the median diameter d50 and the surface area has a good correlation, which can better characterize the thickness degree. Compared with the inspection operations of the surface area, it's easier to inspect with the laser granularity analyzer, the operation speed is fast, Reduces operating error and the proficiency of the test results. As for the ore producers, using the d50 that tested by the laser granularity analyzer is feasible for routine production control.

With the increase in the surface area, the slag particles that produced by vertical grinder increase in coefficient of uniformity, the distribution of particles narrows, the ball mill productions have this similar trend, but the magnitude of changes is smaller that that of the vertical grinder. When the surface area is the same, the coefficient uniformity of the slag particles produced by vertical grinder is bigger than that of ball mill; the distribution of particles is narrower. ~ Side may be due to the experimental grinder and ball mill that are open-circuited are required to achieve the fineness of the product to the mill, finely ground materials that have been inside the mill continue to be effected by the grinding for a long time, prone to over-grinding phenomenon, the distribution range of the particles is wide. And the vertical grinder's built-in new highly efficiency separator, select the powder in time, narrow the distribution of the finished products' particles. On the other hand, ball mill by grinding the material through the grinding balls in the mill so to cause the impact of abrasive material fragmentation, particle thickness basically receives the same force. Cement Hammer mills are used as disagglomerators or as size reduction machines. Combined with a downstream flash dryer, they represent an alternative process to combined grinding and drying for soft to medium-hard materials, such as limestone, chalk, coal, clay, magnesite, phosphate ores, sewage sludges .
 
As a size reduction machine that breaks the feed material by impact and percussion, the Cement hammer mill can be used for feed sizes of up to 50 mm and product finenesses of up to approx. 1 mm, depending on the feed material involved. To achieve the desired product fineness, the separator installed downstream of the flash dryer can be either static or dynamic. While the finished material is collected in a filter, the tailings are returned to the Cement hammer mill.
 
Depending on the type of material feeding (counterflow or uniflow), drying gas of approx. 350 °C or approx. 800 °C are employed. Systems already in operation are dealing with feed moisture contents of up to 40 % and attaining residual moisture contents of 1 - 2 % while achieving a maximum throughput rate of 400 tph.
