Gold Fields has received approval from its stakeholders to acquire IAMGOLD's 18.9% stake in the Tarkwa and Damang gold mines in Ghana for $667m.

The acquisition, first announced on 15 April 2011, is expected to be completed this week.

Gold Fields will now own a 90% stake in the Tarkwa and Damang gold mines, from the previous 71.1%, while the Government of Ghana will own the remaining 10% stake.

Striking Argentine miners have halted production at AngloGold Ashanti's Cerro Vanguardia gold and silver mine to press demands for a pay bonus, a company official said on Wednesday.

Kazakhmys has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the China Development Bank Corporation (CDB) to secure a $1.5bn loan that will be used to develop the copper project at Aktogay, Kazakhstan.

Santa Teresa Minerals, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Casablanca Mining has signed an agreement to acquire interests in a hard rock gold mine in Rancagua, Chile.
